The band was formed in 1999 in Huntington Beach, California with members M Shadows, Zacky Vengeance, The Rev. and Matt Wendt. Avenged Sevenfold's first album was titled Sounding of the Seventh Trumpet. It was recorded when the band members were eighteen years old in high school. Synyster Gates join the band towards the End of 1999 for the recording of Sounding of the Seventh Trumpet. In 2002, there fourth and current bassist, Johnny Christ, joined the band.
Their band name name is a reference to Genesis in the Bible. The scripture is Genesis 4:24, where Cain is sentenced to life in exile for killing his brother. God marked him so that none would kill him because of his sin. Any man who dared to kill Cain would suffer “vengeance seven times over.” The name idea came from Zacky Vengeance.
On tour, they have played with bands such as Pinkly Smooth, Suburban Legends, Atreyu, Bullet for my Valentine, Bless the Fall, Shinedown, Saving Abel, Buckcherry, Good Charlotte, Bleeding Through, Cowboy Troy, The Confession, Death by Stereo, Korn, Kisses for Kings, Burn Halo, and more. Playing with these bands has increased Avenged Sevenfold's popularity and the bands that they perform with popularities.
Surely, you are familiar with the bands ever so popular logo, the Death Bat. This was designed by one of the members high school friends, Micah Montague. Information on this can be found online or on their All Access DVD. The death bat has somewhat “changed” however into a form of full skeleton body with bat wings, which is portrayed on the cover of their City of Evil album.

Even from 1999, this band is still rising to the top of the list of popular music. They are currently working on the there next album of which has a currently unavailable release date. Not very much information has been revealed about this album, all that can be done is guess what it will be like.
